Updartes from the summer transfer window as clubs look to reinforce ahead of the new Premier League season. Manchester United remain active in the market and are keen to land three more signings this summer, which still includes Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho. The club are also looking to sign Porto full-back Alex Telles, with his representative reportedly travelling to Manchester for talks with the club.

Manchester City meanwhile will move on from their Lionel Messi disappointment by increasing their efforts to sign a new centre-back, with two alternatives identified in the pursuit of Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly. Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenerez is among those options, as is Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

United also continue to be linked with Gareth Bale as the Welshman remains crucial to Real Madrid’s rebuilding plans, while Liverpool face a decision over the future of striker Rhian Brewster as Aston Villa want to sign the Wales forward on a permanent deal along with loan interest from Newcastle. BATSHUAYI SET FOR CRYSTAL PALACE RETURN

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is on the verge of sealing a season-long loan move to Crystal Palace – that’s again per PA.

The 26-year-old is poised to sign a one-year extension on his current Stamford Bridge contract and then take up a second loan stint with the Eagles.

Batshuayi’s current Chelsea contract expires next summer and a further agreement until 2022 will stop him becoming a free agent once his expected loan at Palace comes to an end.

Leeds, West Brom and Newcastle had all tracked Batshuayi with a view to a loan switch, but Palace look set to pull off the deal, having already hosted the Belgian in the latter half of the 2018/19 season.

CLUBS QUEUE UP FOR UNITED TEENAGER

Teenager James Garner is closing in on a loan exit from Manchester United, the PA news agency is reporting.

The highly-rated 19-year-old made his debut in February 2019 and has made seven appearances in total for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

But Donny van de Beek’s arrival from Ajax has only increased the competition in United’s midfield and Garner is set to leave on a season-long loan to get some much-needed first-team experience.

BREWSTER BATTLE

We have a bit more detail on the Rhian Brewster move that we brought you news of earlier this morning.

The Wales striker is attracting widespread attention from across the Premier League, and it seems that Liverpool are open to letting him leave the club on a permanent move - on one condition. The club want to insert a buy-back clause in any deal, according to Sky Sports, which could trigger a £20m offer from Aston Villa.

But while that is good news for Villa, the bad news is that both Brighton and Sheffield United are keen on his services and could look to rival any offer that arrives at Anfield.

VILLA SET FOR RECORD DEAL

Aston Villa are on the verge of completing the most expensive signing of a Championship player in history, after making a £3m offer for Brentford forward Ollie Watkins.

According to The Telegraph, Villa have had an initial £28m offer accepted by Brentford for last season’s Championship Player of the Season, and he will undergo a medical in the next 24 hours before completing the move to become their second signing of the summer.

Add-ons could take that fee for Watkins well above the £30m barrier, which would make him the most expensive player to emerge from the Championship in the history of the English Football League, and the move comes after Brentford signed former Peterborough striker Ivan Toney earlier this summer.

KOLAROV ON THE MOVE

Inter Milan have completed the signing of Serbia captain Aleksandar Kolarov from Serie A rivals Roma.

Inter have agreed to pay Roma a fee of €1.5m (£1.3m) for the 34-year-old defender plus up to €500,000 (£360,000) in bonuses.

The length of Kolarov's contract has not been announced but reports says its one year with the Nerazzurri with the option for a second season.

Kolarov joined Roma from Manchester City in 2017 and scored 19 times in 132 appearances for the capital club.

Inter finished second in Serie A last season, a point behind Juventus, and reached the final of the Europa League in Antonio Conte's first campaign in charge.

KENEDY HEADS BACK TO SPAIN

Chelsea have announced that Brazilian winger Kenedy will spend another season on loan in La Liga after agreeing to join Granada for the 2020/21 campaign.

The 24-year-old spent last season with Madrid-based Getafe, following unsuccessful spells with Watford and Newcastle United, and he will once again ply his trade in Spain after agreeing a temporary deal with Granada.

BURNLEY RELAXED AS WEST HAM EYE TARKOWSKI

Burnley coach Sean Dyche has said his club are under no pressure to “get rid of our best players on the cheap” amid speculation that West Ham are moving for centre-back James Tarkowski.

The Hammers are reported to have lodged a £27m bid for the England defender, and although Dyche was coy about the situation, the manager said: “The club is in a very, very strong position so there's no overwhelming desire to be selling players.”

COUTINHO SET TO STAY

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho this summer, with the Brazilian supposedly available on a loan at the very least - and a permanent move if someone wants to cough up the money it would cost to sign him.

However, that stance at Barcelona may have changed.

Coutinho spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich after failing to impress at the Nou Camp, and looked destined for an early exit from the Spanish club. But Spanish newspaper Marca reports that new Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman is determined to give Coutinho a fair crack of the whip this season and has indicated that he will remain a part of his first-team plans.
