Match facts

Both Manchester United and Fenerbahce hold two wins over each other in European competition, with the Turkish side winning 3-0 in the most recent contest in December 2004.

Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick on his Manchester United debut against Fenerbahce in the Champions League in September 2004. United ran out 6-2 winners on the night.

That 6-2 loss is Fenerbahce's joint-heaviest European defeat to an English side, also losing 4-0 to Aston Villa in the UEFA Cup in 1977.

Manchester United have lost just twice in their previous seven home games against Turkish teams, though one of those was to Fenerbahce in 1996 (W4 D1).

Excluding qualifiers, the Red Devils last won consecutive European games in December 2013 under David Moyes.

Fenerbahce's Robin van Persie.made 105 appearances for Manchester United between 2012 and 2015, scoring 58 times.

Just six of United's 33 shots (including blocks) in the group stage so far have been on target.

Simon Kjaer scored the latest goal in the Europa League this season (95:05) in Fenerbahce's last away game in this competition.

Welcome to The Independent’s live coverage of Thursday’s Europa League group stage clash between Manchester United and Fenerbahce.

After putting the mockers on Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool at Anfield on Monday, Jose Mourinho's side turn their attentions to Europe.

With Sunday's trip to Chelsea looming, it will not be a surprise if there are several changes to the line-up which earned a 0-0 draw at Anfield.

Wayne Rooney, who scored a memorable hat-trick against tonight's opponents on his United debut in September 2004, could return to the starting line-up having been among the substitutes since last month's EFL Cup tie at Northampton Town.

Fenerbahce, meanwhile, will line up with Robin van Persie, who returns to Old Trafford for the first time since leaving for Istanbul last year.

Kick-off is at 8.05pm. Stick around for team news and build-up...

A little bit of speculative team news.

Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are not expected to feature tonight.

The trio, among United's stand-out performers at Anfield on Monday, were not present when squad members arrived at The Lowry Hotel this morning.

Anthony Martial, who missed the goalless draw at Liverpool with a minor injury, was photographed entering the hotel with his team-mates.

Martial slots the penalty into the very same corner that Pogba scored in.

Suddenly, it's looking a lot more comfortable for United.

GOAL! Manchester United 3 Fenerbahce 0 (Pogba)

It is now. Finally, one of the Frenchman's long range efforts comes off, flying into the 'keeper's top right hand corner. Monkeys, typewriters, Shakespeare, etc.

58 min: Van Persie fires a cracker from his famous left foot but it skirts wide of De Gea's post.

64 min: This game, understandably, is lulling as both sides come to accept the scoreline.

Memphis Depay comes on for Jesse Lingard. The next 25 minutes could be a big confidence boost for the Dutch youngster.
